Augusto Hidalgo, Mayor of Las Palmas de Grand Canaria, Atlantic City of the Year 2017, and the representatives of three African capitals, named Praia (Cap-Vert), Nouakchott (Mauritania), and Dakar (Senegal) signed a technical cooperation agreement on 20 July.

This agreement responds to the second call of the Interreg MAC program 2014-2020 and also of the work of the former signatory cities to strengthen their ties and cooperative relationships. They will work together for the economic development and the improvement of the quality of life of their citizens through concrete actions and the development of joint projects.

Augusto Hidalgo has said: “It is important that relations are not established only at the State level, I think that we have paved the way of cooperation and now we must broaden that bridge we open with Africa”.

Las Palmas was not only the siege of the signing of this agreement but also the mirror in which these municipalities will look at to develop and grow. This commitment of the Atlantic City of the Year 2017 with these three capitals is part of the will of the Conference of Atlantic Arc Cities to strengthen cooperation between cities in front of the Atlantic Ocean.
