Viana do Castelo, which has been chosen as the “Atlantic City of the year”, continues receiving awards that recognize its excellence. The “Escola da Natureza” project of the Center for Motorization and Environmental Interpretation of Viana do Castelo (CMIA) was the great winner of the European Natura 2000 Awards. This project seeks to bring school communities closer to the natural heritage and promote respect for biodiversity.

The city has also won four awards in the Portugal Five Star Awards 2018. This contest aims to highlight the national reference symbols and awarded, in the district of Viana, recognition to the Filigree, Cabedelo beach, the Santa Lucia temple-monument and the feasts of the Virgin of the Agony.

Viana do Castelo has been selected this year by The Guardian newspaper as one of the twelve best beach cities in southern Europe. Its wild beaches and charming medieval center make the city a perfect destination.

Now that summer is coming, Viana do Castelo is promoting the third edition of the Wine and Blues Festival from July 12 to 14. Three days combining good music with wine and local products.
