On October 16, the city of Viana do Castelo was chosen as the best municipality to live in Portugal, in the economy section. This award is in addition to other awards and recognitions that the city has been receiving, such as being the Atlantic City of the Year 2018.

In this sense, the mayor of Viana do Castelo and president of the Atlantic Cities, José María Costa, is one of the international personalities invited to the Global Parliament of Mayors that takes place this week in Bristol.

The Secretary General of the Atlantic Cities, Tamara Espiñeira, attended the inaugural meeting of this network in The Hague in 2016; where she had the opportunity to meet in person the founder, Benjamin Barber, who sadly died just a year later.

The Global Parliament of Mayors is a platform that defends the role of local authorities in issues of global development, such as climate change or citizen security.
