The mayors of the Atlantic cities are convinced that the problem of transport in the Atlantic Arc is crucial for the development of the Western European territory. Thus, at the invitation of the Committee of the Regions, the members of the Bureau attended the seminar on the Connecting Europe fund in the Committee of the Regions on 7 February in Brussels.
In the seminar, the importance of subsidiarity was highlighted, as well as the role of the Committee of the Regions as a link between the territories. The need for a green transport policy of the EU was also stressed.
During the session, the current priorities of the Connect Europe program were reviewed, as the cross-border sections (rail, road) and the development of seaports; as well as reducing the noise of rail transport. Gildas Borel, from Brest Métropole, asked the European Commission for a definition of “hinterland”, the answer was “to focus on the texts”, even if they can be interpreted to a large extent, especially by the Member States.
