The XVII General Assembly of the Conference of the Atlantic Arc Cities (CAAC) took place on April 28 and 29, 2017 in the city of Viana do Castelo, under the theme of “An Atlantic and Urban Vision of the Future of Europe”. The event was attended and participated by representatives of member cities and experts in European politics.

During the General Assembly a round table entitled “Consolidating of cooperation among Atlantic cities” was held, in which the president of the CAAC, Mr. José María Costa, intervened by highlighting the importance of the existing agreements between the cities of the network that allow to do projects of diverse nature and the need to consolidate the European Citizen initiative in our territories.

Social innovation stood out as the main element to reach a higher level and depth of cooperation between Atlantic cities.

Another issue addressed was the Brexit, which resulted in the issuance of a final declaration by the members of the CAAC that highlights solidarity as a fundamental value for establishing the foundations of the European project. The reinforcement of cooperation ties with British cities is therefore much more favorable at this juncture.
