Marathon Vert: an eco-friendly race in Rennes

This post is also available in: Español (Spanish) Français (French) Português (Portuguese (Portugal))

On Sunday 27th of October 2019 was held in Rennes, founding city of Atlantic Cities network, the 9th edition of the sport event that combines running and ecological commitment, the Marathon Vert.

The event is composed by different types of races, from the traditional marathon to races in pairs or relays, Nordic walking as well as an exclusive women race. The event seeks to promote environmental consciousness and sport values through concrete actions such as spreading the charter “good ecological conduct” or highlighting the benefits of waste recovery.

The marathon is differentiated from others due to the environmental impact of their approach ‘one kilometer, one tree’; in other words, each kilometer run by the participant will translate into the plantation of a tree. Since the creation of the Marathon in 2012, the green runners have enabled the plantation of 724 988 trees across the globe.

Within the Atlantic Cities network, we recognize the importance of sport events that have a social and environmental commitment to citizens.
