Avilés’ application was elected last May 22nd by the International Federation in Japan.
Aviles will, for the first time ever, host a World Cup of Duathlon. The International Federation unveiled last May 22nd in Yokohama (Japan) that the Asturian candidature was chosen to arrange a trial that will take place in June next year, and which will invite more than 1,400 athletes to come to the city at least for a week.
Jorge Garcia, president of the Asturian Federation of Triathlon, highlights that “this will be the last World Cup in Duathlon, from 2017 various disciplines will gather, and we arrived on time and have a historic opportunity. The goal is to be the best World Cup organized so far and that people who come from 40 different countries, return speaking well of Aviles, which is what concerns us all. “
Over the past two decades, Aviles hosted the organization of major national and international sporting events such as athletics or table tennis championships in Spain; European Chess Championship or climbing World Championship, to name a few. With Duathlon, Aviles goes to the next level.
