#Atlantic Arc #Regions: General Assembly in #Santander

The organization that gathers the regions of the Atlantic Arc, the Atlantic Arc Commission (AAC) held its General Assembly the last weekend of May 2012 in Santander (Cantabria, Spain). CAAC was represented by M. Íñigo de la Serna, Mayor of Santander and M. Charles Nicol, Secretary-General of the network.

The communication of the European Commission on the Atlantic strategy and its Action Plan constituted the main shaft. The members of the Atlantic Arc Commission identified five objectives of particular relevance for all the Atlantic regions: accessibility and transport in the Atlantic space; maritime industries; the climate and the environment; research and innovation; and attractiveness of the territories.
Cantabria president, Ignacio Diego, has been elected as the new President of the Atlantic Arc Commission for the period 2012-2014. Diego has set the objective of the Cantabrian Presidency in boosting the economic recovery of the Atlantic Area, a sea area which, in his view, offers untold opportunities for internal and interregional development, but that at the same time opens also to regions and territories on the other side of the ocean. The regional President has also advanced that the development of the Atlantic maritime strategy, proposed by the European Commission, will be the central focus of his mandate
