Unicef France has awarded the city of Brest the title of “Child Friendly City” that it shares with 242 other French cities. The title, created in 2002, welcomed the strong commitment of the city to its children and its attention towards children in countries in the southern hemisphere.
Becoming Child Friendly City, the City of Brest wishes to affirm its commitment to children and youth. The city is engaged in many activities in this sense, with a strong Local Educational Project Innovative integrated into everyday practice for ten years. This shared commitment that now links the City of Brest and UNICEF will bring together new dynamics for young Brest people, but also for young people from disadvantaged countries in the southern hemisphere, for instance with Burkina Faso, the twin city of Brest in Africa.
On the occasion of the General Assembly of the Conference of Atlantic Arc Cities on 3 and 4 July 2013, Brest Métropole Océane was elected Atlantic City of the Year.
