Since the 5th of August, Cork, a founding member of CAAC, is celebrating a whole month dedicated to crafts. Running until September 5th, this will be the 5th annual Craft Month event featuring a range of exhibitions, workshops, open studio days and the ‘Made in Cork Trail’. Other trails feature everything from upcycled furniture in Cork City to fine art bronze in Glengariff, timber products in Carrignavar and craft stores in Kilworth, Baltimore and Skibbereen. There will also be a Sculpture Trail on the grounds of Blarney Castle.
The Cork craft industry sector includes ceramics, glass, jewellery, textiles, furniture and many more. Cork craft businesses are mainly small in scale and geographically widespread. The industry is a significant employer, providing viable, sustainable enterprises around the county, including in rural communities.
Craft industries are among the topics to be explored in the CAAC Working Group “Creative Cities” that will take place in Plymouth next September 19th. You can register HERE.
