Atlantic Cities is, since August 2019, a partner in the Interreg Europe EURE (Effectiveness of Environmental Urban policies to improve Resources Efficiency) project. This project aims to use interregional cooperation to improve the way the ERDF addresses the urban environmental challenges of cities in peripheral regions, also paying attention to smaller cities and having an influence in the sparsely populated areas where they are located.

In the framework of the EURE project, Atlantic Cities is looking at the ERDF Operational Programme Brittany 2014-2020, and more precisely at its Axis 3 “Energy Transition” whose objectives are to increase the production of renewable energy, to reduce the carbon footprint of buildings as well as to increase the number of users of sustainable transport modes in Brittany. Atlantic Cities organised a study visit to Brest in November 2019. Two projects were presented in the framework of the major urban renewal operation of the Capucins eco-district. More information on this district is available in this case study written by Atlantic Cities.

Since then, the work has continued among the partners and Atlantic Cities has participated in the co-production of two documents: the Joint Report, which analyses the European Union’s intervention in urban areas and makes 15 recommendations for the future of European urban policy; and the Opinion Report, which makes recommendations on how small, medium-sized and peripheral cities should be taken into account in the European Union’s urban policy.

Atlantic Cities has also produced a regional state of the art report, which details regional policies and projects in favour of urban resources and environment. It will be presented soon. For that reason, do not hesitate to keep an eye on the latest news on our website and social networks.

You can now discover these reports at the following links, respectively the Joint Report and the Opinion Report.
