International Conference on Aids to Navigation en A Coruña

From 24th to 31st May, more than 500 experts in maritime navigation coming from around 60 countries will meet in A Coruña for the 18th edition of the Conference of the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA). Maritime safety is one of the fundamental themes of the Atlantic Strategy.

The presidency of the CAAC hosts this Conference whose theme is “Aids to navigation: knowledge and innovation; from the Tower of Hercules to the electronic navigation and beyond”.

The Conference includes the General Assembly whose aim is to set the guidelines and regulations of the systems of aid to navigation, with the challenge of being recognized as an international and intergovernmental body.

The role of the lighthouses as maritime signals, but also about their uses as centres of leisure and tourism is highlighted by the project Lighthouses of Spain, developed by the Spanish Ports Authority. One cannot forget that the Tower of Hercules in A Coruña is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
