After 10 years of Atlantic Cities’ cooperation in the development of the Atlantic Strategy, the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the European Commission has launched the Atlantic Action Plan 2.0 during the month of our 20th anniversary.

An updated action plan which embraces a maritime strategy aimed at promoting sustainable blue economy and the European Green Deal. At the same time the renewed plan is addressed to give a new impulse to the Atlantic maritime strategy and to the Atlantic countries’ efforts.

The main challenges to be addressed are reducing greenhouse emissions and the development of marine renewable energy; the fight against marine pollution, employment creation in the blue economy sector and climate change adaptation by improving coastal observation and protection measures.

The Action Plan is endowed with an international dimension in the framework of the Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance that includes countries such as the U.S.A., Canada, Brazil and South Africa, open to any interested country. Moreover, it aims to strengthen cooperation ties between Atlantic States, involved regions and stakeholders.
