The mayor of Donostia / San Sebastian (Spain), Mr. Eneko Goia, was elected president of the Atlantic Cities association, following the introduction of his candidacy at the General Assembly of 6 September 2021, which was held simultaneously in Viana do Castelo (Portugal) and online due to the context.
The new president vigorously stated his desire to work in cooperation to relaunch the network and face up to the common challenges facing Atlantic cities. It would be a matter of supporting current projects and investing fully in future projects, in particular by finding new partners.
His candidacy was acclaimed by the members of Atlantic Cities and his commitment was warmly welcomed. As the Vice-Mayor of Santiago de Compostela (Spain), Mr. Gumersindo Guinarte, said about the new presidency “Your success will be our success”.
This new presidency is part of the defence of an Atlantic macro-region. This project aligns with reinforced territorial cooperation that Atlantic Cities has been defending since the proclamation of the San Sebastian Charter in 2008.
In the same way, this Basque Presidency will closely monitor the development of the Atlantic corridor. Finally, it will be responsible for the Association’s Strategic Plan 2021-2023.
