We are glad to announce the Atlantic Heritage City 2022 Contest is now open!

This contest seeks to put the light on an Atlantic City which distinguishes itself through its contribution to sustainable development, and that represents the Atlantic identity. Our network’s member cities are automatically enrolled in the contest, except the previous edition winners. Apart from them, all Atlantic cities can participate to the contest and will be gladly welcome to do so.

More than just a title, the winner of the Atlantic Heritage City of the Year will be awarded several prizes:

  • One-year subscription to the Atlantic Cities network, in the case that the winner is a city non-affiliated to the association, nor was by the past.
  • Technical assistance in the European projects, by providing strategy, information and advice about the different opportunities in the European projects.
  • A prominent position in communication. For example, the former winner, Brest (France), was chosen to host the 2023 edition of the European Maritime Day.

The interested cities can submit their application by completing this FORM, in which they will detail their achievements in the field of sustainable development. Please, note that the submissions will be judged in the light of Atlantic Cities’   Charter of San Sebastian.

Assessment will be based on an evaluation of the city’s different achievements for sustainable development and its contribution to the communication and visibility of the Atlantic Arc.

A distinctive feature of the 2022 edition is that it will also take into account the promotion of the cities’ cultural heritage in the evaluation process.
